MassBay Men’s Basketball Making Late-Season Playoff Push
As the 2025–26 season heads into the stretch run, the MassBay Community College men’s basketball team (12-9, 11-7 Region 21) is finding its rhythm at the right time. Powered by a deep rotation, efficient scoring, and major contributions from a talented freshman class, the Bucs are building momentum as they push toward postseason play. The Bucs are currently in 4th place in the region as they battle for a first round home playoff game.
MassBay’s offensive balance has been a defining trait this season, with multiple players averaging solid production and the ability to score in a variety of ways.
Coutinho Sets the Pace
Freshman Gustavo Coutinho has been the engine of the MassBay offense. In 17 games, Coutinho is averaging 22.7 points per game, while shooting efficiently from both the field and from distance. His scoring punch has made him one of the most dangerous offensive players in the region. In addition, he has scored 30+ point four times this season, and leads the team at 8.8 rebounds per game,
Multiple Scoring Options
The Bucs’ scoring attack extends well beyond Coutinho. Lansana Kaba is averaging 13.7 points per game, while Cortney Caldwell contributes 11.7 points per game, giving MassBay multiple consistent scoring threats. Ezekiel Wilson (10.3 ppg) and Lanse Dorcelus (9.4 ppg) round out a core that keeps pressure on opposing defenses.
Depth from players like John Lamas, Gino Preziosa, Zeb Baffour, and Vincent Reace has kept the Bucs competitive across all rotations. Bench contributors such as Shea Hastings and Adonais Mpemwangi have also added valuable minutes and scoring when needed.
Focused on the Finish
With a young but productive roster and several players stepping into expanded roles, MassBay is peaking as the postseason approaches. The Bucs’ ability to spread the scoring load, convert at the free throw line, and get contributions throughout the lineup has made them a tough matchup down the stretch.
